Two books — "Standard Specification for Slope Stabilization Using Vetiver Grass" and "Vetiver-Based Bioengineering for Slope Stabilization: A Practical Guideline for Bangladesh" — were unveiled at the seminar room of the Research and Innovation Centre for Science and Engineering (RISE), BUET on Thursday, 9 July 2026.

The books, authored by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shariful Islam, Director of RISE and Professor of the Department of Civil Engineering, BUET, together provide an integrated framework for the planning, design, construction and maintenance of vetiver-based slope stabilization systems. The first presents the scientific basis, engineering principles and international standards; the second is tailored to the geographical, climatic and engineering realities of Bangladesh, including local construction methods, implementation strategies, design examples and field-level guidance.

The publications are expected to make vetiver technology easier to apply in building durable, climate-resilient infrastructure along road slopes, riverbanks, embankments, hilly areas and erosion-prone regions of the country.
