Biography

Prof. Dr. Mohammad Shariful Islam is the Director of the Research and Innovation Centre for Science and Engineering (RISE) and a Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).

He obtained his PhD from Saitama University, Japan. His research focuses on vetiver-based bioengineering, slope stabilization, climate-resilient infrastructure and disaster-resilient housing. He has authored more than 184 publications and received 27 awards for his contributions to research and innovation.

As Director of RISE, he leads the centre's mission to foster world-class research at BUET, build strong academia-industry partnerships, and create pathways for laboratory-to-market innovation.
