APPENDIX A: DEFINITION OR GLOSSARY OF TERMS   

RISE Internal Research Grant: The research grants that will be offered by RISE to BUET faculty members against Call for Proposal. The budget for RISE Internal Research Grant will be allocated from RISE total cash inflow that will be constituted from BUET contribution (from Revenue budget and others that BUET authority may provide) and from 15% overhead imposed on Externally Funded Research Projects.
Externally Funded Research Project: The research projects that are funded by an external source that is not affiliated with BUET. This includes research projects funded by any national/international funding sources including collaboration of academia, alumni and industry from home and abroad and investigated by faculty members/departments/institutes/directorates etc. of BUET.

IACUC:Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee

Appendix B

APPENDIX B: RESEARCH ASSISTANTS   

Qualifications and Appointment Procedure


  • • RAs must have a BSc degree and may not be a current student.
  • • RAs must have a minimum of 3.0 GPA or equivalent in BSc.
  • • Postgraduate students from other than BUET cannot apply for RAs.
  • • PIs may give preference to BUET postgraduate students for selecting RAs.
  • • RAs will be selected by the concerned PIs and forwarded by the concerned Head/Director of the concerned Department/Institute/Centre.
  • • The Director of RISE will appoint RAs.

Duties


The duties, tasks and work hours of RAs will be assigned by the concerned PIs.

Salary/Compensation Package


  • • The consolidated salary of RAs with BSc degree will be equal to the 9th grade employees in the Government pay-scale. A candidate with a Master’s/M.Phil. degree will receive two extra increments of the same grade.
  • • The RA salary will be directly handled by the RISE accounts section and disbursed monthly to the bank accounts of RAs.

Appendix C

APPENDIX C: EXTERNALLY FUNDED RESEARCH PROJECTS   

  • • For research under Academia/National and International Government or government affiliated organization against publicly-circulated Call for Proposal for Research Funding:

    The proposal/application for grant will be submitted to the external funding source through RISE and the grant amount will be handled by RISE according to the rules set by RISE. If the proposal has to be endorsed by the university, the Director of RISE will be the signatory/endorser of the proposal. The grant proposal/application does not have to be approved by any committee of the Department/Institute/Centre of the applicant. However, the applicant must submit the application/proposal to the Director, RISE for endorsement and/or to bring the proposal/application in cognizance of RISE with a forwarding from the Head/Director of the concerned Department/Institute/Centre.
  • • For individual research collaboration with Academia/International organization where there is no publicly-circulated Call for Proposal for Research Funding:

    The proposal/application for grant will be submitted to the external funding source through RISE and the grant amount will be handled by RISE according to the rules set by RISE. If the proposal has to be endorsed by the university, the Director of RISE will be the signatory/endorser for the proposal. If the proposal has to be endorsed by the university, the Director of RISE will be the signatory/endorser for the proposal. However, if the proposal/application is found to be a consultancy job or if there is any doubt about the nature of the job, RISE Director will consult with the Director, BRTC, BUET and decide how the proposal/application should progress.
  • • For research collaboration with Industrial/National non-government organization where there is no publicly-circulated Call for Proposal for Research Funding:

    The applicant will submit the grant proposal/application to the Director, RISE with a forwarding from the Head/Director of the concerned Department/Institute/Centre. The proposal/application does not have to be approved/reviewed by any committee of the Department/Institute/Centre of the applicant. The RISE Director will review the proposal and decide whether the proposal/application for grant should be treated as a research project rather not a consultancy job.
